Chuay Sanctuary- Background

Chuay is a Thai word denoting caring for self or others.

The president of the Chuay Sanctuary is a Registered Nurse who spent her 41 year career with the Department of Veterans Affairs in both Long Beach, California and Tucson, Arizona.  She retired in 2010.  She spent 10 years volunteering with the Pima County Attorney’s Victim Advocate program and she is an IFOC Chaplain and a member of the Tucson Community Chaplains Corps.

The Chuay organizers decided to have a physical place where Victim Advocates, Law Enforcement, Chaplains and other people who serve our community would be welcome to take a break.  This could be for several hours or several days.  Chuay is on 2 acres and is in a quiet neighborhood. It is very unpretentious

The goal is not to have large numbers of people, but to have the people that choose to come to Chuay find a safe place to rest. In the past we have invited Chuay supporters for presentations on self care, vicarious trauma, diet and exercise, group acupuncture sessions, plant identification in the desert and other activities that encourage fellowship and rejuvenation.  If you have a group that is interested in something of this nature, please email me and we can brainstorm how the Chuay space and resources can be of assistance.

Please call 520 576 7485 if you would like more information.

Presently, Chuay is supported by an anonymous donor and other donations and is an approved 501 (3) c charity organization.
